Justice-impacted, not justice-defeated.
The Justice-Impacted Student Organization (JISO) at Florida State University transforms resilience into leadership and education into opportunity. We exist to build a supportive community for students who have experienced incarceration, arrest, or the effects of a loved one’s involvement in the legal system.
Guided by FSU’s Unconquered spirit, we seek to redefine justice-impacted students as leaders, scholars, and advocates for change.
“There’s a deep chasm… K–12 prepares students for university.
But many justice-impacted students never had that.
Unless we bridge it, we risk setting them up for failure.”
— Dr. Jarrett Terry, Provost and V.P. Academic Affairs
“Mentorship and transfer services provide the wraparound support that
helps students thrive once they arrive at FSU.”
— Allison Lewis, Director, Transfer & Special Programs, Admissions
“Student organizations are crucial. They create community, support, and a conduit for communicating needs.” — Provost Jim Clark
“The justice system is one of the most stressful systems ever created… Students returning from incarceration face enormous obstacles, yet everything we know tells us they need a fair break and the opportunity to succeed.”
— Provost Jim Clark
